Norville Trio

The NORVILLE trio was created by vibraphonist Tom Beckham to pay tribute to the swinging sound of the great vibraphonist Red Norvo (Aka Kenneth Norville) and his trio of the 50’s.

Red’s group, featuring greats like Charles Mingus, Tal Farlow, Red Mitchell, and Jimmy Rainey took their hot blend of clever interplay, swinging arrangements, and quick wit to well-versed American Jazz Classics or Tin Pan Alley tunes and showed folks that their trio had a big band sound, despite only having 3 players. The Norville book features many transcriptions of those early days, along with newer, original arrangements that extend the trio’s unique take on the language of swing.

“The vibraphonist knows full well that he’s working a percussion instrument, so the extra oomph that goes into this tip’o the hat to Red Norvo’s swing tunes is par for the course. …the small group interaction will be both breezy and blistering.” —The Village Voice
